We occasionally accept interns from recognised conservation training institutions. If you wish to apply please send a CV and 200 word personal statement.
The basics needed to enter the conservation profession are manual skills, a good general education, including chemistry and fine art, and a high level of commitment.
There are currently three training courses running in the UK for aspiring painting conservators:
After completing a course, some form of work-based training will be necessary, such as an internship or other placement opportunity. Only after undertaking both the academic qualification and then further training can one progress onto professional practice.
For further information please consult the Training Directory on the Institute of Conservation (ICON) website. Please research these options fully rather than emailing us directly. We recieve too many emails to answer them all individually.
